Manifattura Italiana Cucirini (MIC), an Italian company that specializes in producing eco-friendly yarns, has introduced a specially treated sewing thread. The thread is especially suitable for making PPE and is useful in the fight against COVID-19. It was developed with the aid of a new treatment called SAFE which makes it suitable for all sectors which demand safety, hygiene and odor control properties, including the production of medical supplies such as masks, gowns and PPE, technical textiles and sportswear.
The product is compatible with all fabrics-synthetic, artificial and natural-and lasts for up to 20 washes. This can be ideally combined with other MIC treatments (i.e. water-repellent PFC-free), without altering the quality and solidity of the treated sewing threads. This procedure is done with Sanitizer, a disinfectant drug that can reduce the antibacterial and viral load by up to 99 percent due to its properties.
MIC handled sewing threads are screened and certified in compliance with ASTM G21 (antifungal) and JIS L 1902 (antibacterial) International standards. Antiviral properties of threads are checked in independent laboratories, so the final product in which Safely treated yarn was used must, therefore, be accredited and approved in compliance with the regulations.
