IX and PRAN-RFL Group Partner to Pioneer Orange Bonds and Sukuk to Advance Orange Movement in Bangladesh

Impact Investment Exchange (IIX), a global impact finance pioneer, and PRAN-RFL Group, one of Bangladesh’s largest and most diversified conglomerates, has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to explore the issuance of an Orange Bond and Sukuk in Bangladesh. The partnership reflects a shared commitment to promoting inclusive growth and responsible investment in the nation through the introduction of innovative financial instruments such as Orange Bonds and a supportive ecosystem under the Orange Movement™.

The collaboration comes at a pivotal time. Bangladesh has seen over US$1.2 billion in sustainable finance commitments in the last three years alone, signaling strong growth in demand for ESG-aligned capital. Orange Bonds aim to expand this market further by bringing a gender and climate lens to traditional finance tools, offering new opportunities for impact-driven investments to key sectors in the country.

Orange Bonds are the world’s first asset class designed to directly address both social and environmental challenges. Symbolizing the color of UN SDG 5: Gender Equality, they aim to unlock international capital for high-impact sectors including agriculture, ready-made garments, financial services, infrastructure, and MSMEs. Structured in line with the International Capital Market Association’s (ICMA) Green Bond Principles, Social Bond Principles, and Sustainability Bond Guidelines, Orange Bonds offer investors both financial returns and measurable impact.

Under this new partnership, PRAN will explore the adoption of the Orange Framework, including the Orange Bond Principles™ and the Orange Seal™, as it looks to issue Orange Capital products such as Orange Bonds and Orange Sukuk. These instruments are part of the growing Orange Movement™, a global initiative led by IIX to drive gender-transformative climate action, sustainable peace, and economic prosperity.

“As a company deeply committed to inclusive growth, we see this partnership with IIX as a pivotal next step,” said Uzma Chowdhury, Director, Finance, at PRAN-RFL Group. “Exploring the issuance of an Orange Bond enables us to strengthen our impact while aligning with global standards in sustainable finance, in our effort to leverage capital to create real, lasting change for the communities we serve, most markedly the women and rural entrepreneurs and MSMEs.”

PRAN-RFL Group’s alignment with the Orange Framework builds on its track record of empowering farmers and rural communities through its wide-reaching ecosystem in food, agriculture, packaging, and engineering. The Group’s exploration of the Orange Bonds will cover the sectors of agriculture, renewable energy, RMG, and healthcare. By embedding transparency, accountability, and inclusivity into its financial strategy, PRAN is positioning itself as a pioneer in next-generation finance.

“With more companies in Bangladesh embracing the Orange Movement, we’re witnessing a shift in how private capital is being mobilized for social equity and climate action,” said Pro. Durreen Shahnaz, CEO and Founder, IIX. What started as a bold idea to reshape finance around gender equality and climate action is now becoming a reality, with Orange Bonds gaining interest from both issuers and investors across Asia and beyond. PRAN’s leadership sends a strong message that companies in emerging markets are ready to lead the way in building a more inclusive and resilient financial future.”

As Bangladesh continues to emerge as a hub for inclusive and sustainable development, this partnership signals a broader shift in the region’s financial landscape—one where innovation, gender equity, and climate resilience go hand in hand. By expanding the Orange Movement™ in the nation, IIX is not only setting a new standard for private sector leadership but also helping chart a course for Bangladesh to become a global example of how emerging economies can shape the future of finance for good.
