Job fair in Ctg boosts opportunities for women workers

A job fair organised by USAID’s Women Thrive in Bangladesh project, in collaboration with PVH Corp and CARE, brought nearly 1,000 women job seekers together with employers and service providers in the region.

Job fair

The initiative aims to enhance career opportunities for women, particularly in the ready-made garment (RMG) sector, according to a press release.

Four leading businesses — Four H Fashions, Clifton Textiles & Apparels Ltd., Pacific Jeans, and Desh Group of Industries — along with Bdjobs and several NGOs, participated in the event. They offered direct interviews, career counseling, and networking opportunities to women aspiring for jobs in the garment and other industries, the release said.

Farida Khanom, deputy commissioner of Chattogram, inaugurated the fair as the chief guest. Distinguished attendees included Sipan Chowdhury, deputy inspector general of the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments, Zia Haider Khan from PVH Corp, and Luthmela Farid of Pacific Jeans Group. Officials from CARE Bangladesh, including Mehrul Islam, Zehra Simeen Islam Rahim, and Aamanur Rahman, also attended.

The job fair reflects ongoing efforts by USAID’s Women Thrive in Bangladesh project to support women and youth by bridging gaps between jobseekers and employers. This initiative builds on the success of similar events held across Bangladesh, targeting the empowerment of women in the RMG industry, the release said.

Through this project, CARE Bangladesh and PVH Corp. aim to train over 100,000 women workers by 2026. The training encompasses professional skills and leadership development for women in factories and their communities, ensuring sustainable growth and gender equity in the workplace., the release added.
