The STeP certification, dedicated to sustainable textile production, guarantees the same quality and the same attention to the environment in both areas of the world. Eight years after its creation, KAI (Klopman Argo International, Klopman’s joint venture with Argo Manunggal Textile), which was conceived to serve the Asian market with dedicated production at a new Jakarta plant, has reached an important milestone. Replicating the success of the Frosinone plant, the Indonesian production site has now obtained the highest level (Level 3) of STeP certification by Oeko-Tex®; a system specifically dedicated to the textile supply chain to ensure the use of eco-friendly technologies and products, an efficient use of resources and the adoption of working conditions in line with the highest international standards.
The STeP certification, an acronym for Sustainable Textile & Leather Production, is further proof of Klopman’s ongoing commitment to sustainability that allows the company to offer its customers all over the world the same standards in terms of quality and social responsibility, communicated in a transparent and effective way.
“This is an important milestone that highlights how much sustainability is now part of Klopman’s DNA regardless of the geographical area in which the company operates,” says Amaury Sartorius, Managing Director of Klopman. “We are very satisfied with the results achieved since the beginning of our adventure in Asia with KAI, and we will continue to pursue our mission to offer customers in the Asian area the same technical and quality standards offered in Europe, with particular attention to social and environmental commitment.”
“The highest level of STeP certification is never given lightly and proves the quality level achieved from our Jakarta plant,” adds Elke Bissdorf, Product Manager of Klopman. “Customers in the Asian market can count on an additional reason to choose Klopman products, sure that they are made not only in the name of quality and innovation but also using production processes that respect both environment and workers. This is also underlined by the MADE IN GREEN LABEL by OEKO-TEX®, which can be provided to our customers. This traceable product label guarantees that an article has been tested for harmful substances and has been manufactured using sustainable processes under socially responsible working conditions.”
Klopman International s.r.l. has been a European leader in the production and marketing of technical fabrics for workwear for over 50 years, with three business areas dedicated to the different fields of application: Workwear, Protectivewear and Corporatewear. The company was the first to introduce the use of polyester/cotton, gaining a third of the European market in some sectors and producing fabrics in over 170 styles and different colour shades, some even designed ad hoc for the individual customer. Advanced technologies and centralised process control, which monitors and simultaneously corrects 4.000 machine stitches, are just some of the advantages that make Klopman an industrial jewel and that make its fabrics more resistant to wear, shrinkage, and colour alteration.
Klopman has its headquarters and production site in Frosinone, Italy, with a plant covering 70,000 square metres, approximately 400 employees, an annual production of about 40 million metres of fabric and a turnover of more than 150 million euro.
The company has commercial branch offices in Dusseldorf, Lyon, Moscow, Borås (Sweden), Dubai and Bangkok, plus a production site in Jakarta to serve the Asian market directly. In addition to its ISO 9001:2008 certification, Klopman International works in compliance with European quality management standards and is BS EN ISO 14001:2004, BS OHSAS 18001:2007 and STeP, Sustainable Textile Production certified.
