The Bangladesh Garment Buying House Association (BGBA) marked a significant and historic moment on 8 March 2026, celebrating an important milestone in the organization’s journey while formally welcoming the newly elected Board of Directors for the 2026–2028 term.
BGBA, which began its journey in 2006 with only eight members, has grown into a prominent organization representing the country’s garment buying house sector. Over the years, the association has expanded significantly and now represents more than 1,000 registered members involved in the global supply chain of Bangladesh’s Ready-Made Garment (RMG) industry.

The buying house sector plays a crucial role in Bangladesh’s export economy. Members of BGBA contribute substantially to facilitating international orders and supporting the country’s garment export industry, which generates around 90 percent of Bangladesh’s total foreign exchange earnings.
For many years after its establishment, the organization operated without a regular electoral process for its executive committee. In 2023, the Ministry of Commerce appointed an administrator to facilitate institutional reforms and organize elections for the 2024–2026 executive committee. Under this process, a 15-member executive committee, led by President Md. Mofazzal Hossain Pavel, was formed through the association’s first structured electoral process.
On 18 March 2024, the committee formally assumed office with a mandate lasting until 18 March 2026. To ensure democratic continuity and protect the voting rights of general members, an independent Election Board and Appeal Board were formed on 22 October 2025 to conduct the next leadership transition.
Following BGBA’s constitution and trade organization regulations, the Election Board successfully organized a fair, transparent and participatory election, through which a 21-member Board of Directors for the 2026–2028 term was elected.
During the ceremony held on 8 March 2026, the outgoing 2024–2026 Executive Committee formally handed over responsibilities to the newly elected board. This transition marks an important step in strengthening institutional governance, democratic practice and organizational continuity within BGBA.
Statement from BGBA President
Speaking on the occasion, Md. Mofazzal Hossain Pavel, President of BGBA, highlighted the significance of the transition and the future of the organization. He says, “Today is a historic day for BGBA. Our organization has grown from a small initiative into a large and influential platform representing the buying house community of Bangladesh. Through a transparent electoral process, we have ensured democratic continuity and institutional stability. I firmly believe that the newly elected Board of Directors will lead BGBA with vision, integrity and professionalism.”
He further added, “The buying house sector is an important pillar of Bangladesh’s garment industry. By strengthening collaboration between manufacturers, buyers and global partners, BGBA will continue to play a vital role in supporting export growth, ensuring professional services and safeguarding the interests of our members.”
BGBA expressed confidence that the newly elected leadership will work collectively to further strengthen the organization, promote ethical and professional standards, and enhance the contribution of the buying house sector to Bangladesh’s economy.
