My 10 Key Expectations from BGMEA Leadership (2025-27)

  1. Vision for $100 Billion Exports:
  • Leaders should present a clear roadmap to achieve the $100 billion RMG export target, including market expansion and value-added products.

  1. Crisis Management Expertise:
  • Prioritize leaders who can tackle high production costs (gas/energy crises, 15% bank interest rates) and global competition like Vietnam, India.
  1. Sustainable & Green Manufacturing:
  • Push for green factories, circular economy adoption to retain Bangladesh’s edge in ethical fashion.
  1. Digital Transformation:
  • Expecting such leadership who will drive and Invest in AI, IoT, and automation to boost efficiency, reduce lead times, and compete with tech-driven rivals.
  1. Strong Lobbying for Policy Support:
  • Demand leaders who can negotiate with the government for tax incentives, energy subsidies, and low-cost loans. Moreover, they will sincerely focus on smooth and productive management in ports and customs.
  1. Transparency & Accountability:
  • Reject factional politics; elect leaders who will publish audited reports and involve members in decision-making.
  1. Workers’ Welfare & Skills Development:
  • Advocate for fair and justified wages considering business situation , not situational wages hike under pressure, upskilling programs, and worker safety to improve productivity and global brand image.
  1. Diversification Beyond Apparel:
  • Support leaders who promote non-cotton textiles, manmade fibers (MMF), and backward linkage industries to reduce import dependency.
  1. Unity Post-Election:
  • Back candidates who pledge to bridge divides and focus on collective growth.
  1. Global Branding & FDI Attraction:
  • Leaders should aggressively market “Made in Bangladesh” as a premium brand and attract foreign investment in high-end manufacturing.

Summery is I expect BGMEA leaders who combine experience with innovation—those who can navigate crises, adopt tech/sustainability, and unite the sector to secure Bangladesh’s position as the world’s top ethical apparel hub.
