The NITER Debating Society (NITERDS) welcomed the newly admitted 16th batch students of the National Institute of Textile Engineering and Research (NITER) through a lively and humorous debate session. The event was held at 2:30 PM on Thursday at the NITER Conference Room. The institute’s Director, Dr. Ashikur Alam Rana, attended the program as the chief guest. NITERDS Moderator Raihan Ahmed Joy and Co-Moderator Shakila Shafik were also present. The humorous debate was organized on the motion “Love Blossoms in the First Year and Fades in the Fourth Year.” Senior members of NITERDS participated in the debate, presenting witty arguments and humorous performances that created an engaging and cheerful atmosphere for the newcomers.
Representing the government side were Abdullah Mia, Maymuna Tanzum Orni and Sadman Sakib Sad, while Suchona Das, Tahsina Sultana Ridni and Fazle Rabbi Mohin represented the opposition. Rafid Islam, Shamima Shammi, Ibna Sabit Abir and Afia Saira served as judges. The session was designed to make the orientation experience more enjoyable and engaging for the 16th batch while introducing them to NITER’s debating culture. The participants captivated the audience with their sharp arguments, humorous presentations, and entertaining performances.
Organizers said debating can help students develop public speaking, communication, logical reasoning and presentation skills, which can also play an important role in their future corporate careers. They also guided newcomers on how regular debate practice can help them improve their skills and confidence. Through the program, the new students gained an opportunity to become familiar with NITERDS and showed enthusiasm for taking part in its upcoming activities. The event concluded with a photography session at around 3:50 PM.
