Ohyoung-a new global leader in dyestuff market

Renowned South Korean dye manufacturing company Ohyoung Inc., in collaboration with its Bangladesh representative TeXco Tech, successfully hosted the 2025 Bangladesh Technical Seminar on 26th April 2025 at the Radisson Hotel in the capital. The prestigious event showcased Ohyoung’s latest advances in dyeing technologies, with a strong emphasis on efficiency, environmental responsibility, and global competitiveness for Bangladesh’s rapidly evolving textile sector.

The seminar was honoured by the presence of His Excellency Park Young-sik, Honourable Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Bangladesh; Jinwook Chung, President of Ohyoung Inc.; and senior members of Ohyoung’s Global Technical Team. Representing the local counterpart, Md. Anwarul Haque Tutul, Managing Partner of TeXco Tech, welcomed guests along with senior industry leaders from Bangladesh’s textile sector. More than 400 + industry owners and experts were present at the Seminar.

Jinhak Hur, Director General of KOTRA Dhaka, also joined as a Special Envoy, further underlining the strengthening Korea-Bangladesh trade partnership.

The seminar commenced with welcome speeches by Md. Anwarul Haque Tutul and Seom Gyu Lee, Overseas Manager of Ohyoung, followed by a Guest of Honour address by Ambassador Park Young-sik. In his speech, Ambassador Park said, Bangladesh is a promising destination for Korea to export its mmf, textile machinery, chemical dyes and other raw materials. On the other hand, Korea is a potential garment export market for Bangladesh. So, there lies mutual benefits for both sides.

He also highlighted the potential Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) under negotiation, calling it a “last game-changer” that could dramatically boost bilateral trade, especially in the apparel and textiles sector. In FY24, Korea ranks as the third-largest foreign investor in Bangladesh, he added. Korea Economic Processing Zone (KEPZ) in Chattogram is a significant example of this collaboration, currently exporting over $1.25 billion annually and providing employment to more than 70,000 Bangladeshis. In order to strengthen the backwards linkage of Bangladesh’s RMG sector, Korean investors can play a crucial role by expanding their investment in non-cotton fabric and textile manufacturing, Ambassador added.

Korean companies like Ohyoung bring proven expertise in high-value technologies. Partnerships with Bangladeshi enterprises are crucial to foster innovation ecosystems that align with global market expectations for sustainability, quality, and traceability, said Jinhak Hur, Director General of KOTRA Dhaka. Following the dignitaries’ remarks, the seminar’s technical sessions unfolded under the overarching theme: “Ohyoung as a Responsible Dyestuff Supplier in the Era of Sustainability.”

President Jinwook Chung outlined Ohyoung’s strategic vision, emphasizing that sustainability is now core to the company’s R&D, production, and customer support operations. “Our mission is to empower textile manufacturers to meet — and exceed — the most stringent environmental and quality standards demanded by global brands and regulators,” he said.

The technical segment featured specialized presentations:

Jungho (Kevin) Choi delivered an insightful session titled “Sustainable Textiles: Addressing Regulatory and Market Demands,” shedding light on how regulations like the EU’s Green Deal and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) frameworks are reshaping global sourcing. He noted that consumers are increasingly favoring brands that offer sustainable, functional fashion, making eco-compliance a commercial imperative.

Sangchul Choi presented “Partnering for Progress: Ohyoung’s Innovative Dyeing Solutions for Durable Fabrics,” focusing on breakthrough dyeing techniques that minimize environmental impact without compromising fabric performance. His session emphasized innovations that dramatically lower water and energy consumption, reduce chemical discharge, and improve operational efficiency in dyeing plants.

Key strategies discussed for advancing sustainability in textile dyeing included:

  • Adopting circular economy principles,
  • Reducing environmental footprint through eco-friendly materials and low-impact processes,
  • Enhancing chemical safety and resource conservation,
  • Promoting traceability and ethical manufacturing practices,
  • Integrating AI-driven solutions to optimize production and minimize waste.

Emerging technologies such as e-Coloration (an ultra-low liquor ratio dyeing method) and supercritical CO₂ dyeing (waterless dyeing technology) were spotlighted as transformative innovations poised to redefine the industry standard.

A major highlight of the seminar was the official launch of two new-generation sustainable dye series: Suncron HP and APEX Dyes.

Engineered to deliver superior performance while reducing environmental impacts, these dyes promise:

  • Up to 40% savings in water and energy consumption during dyeing,
  • Enhanced color fastness and shade reproducibility for polyester and synthetic fabrics,
  • Significant reduction in processing time, improving throughput and lowering production costs,
  • Compliance with global standards such as ZDHC MRSL, REACH, and bluesign® criteria.

Ohyoung has launched two new series of innovative products HP& Apex range for higher productivity and sustainability. We are excited as our BD industry will directly be benefitted while being able to produce more durable and sustainable fabric for their global brands and retailers, said Md. Anwarul Haque Tutul, Managing Partner of TeXco Tech.

Ohyoung with high-cost competitiveness and superior product, quality will strive to expand its domestic and export market presence through innovation.
