Apparel Engineering Department Professor M A Kashem has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX), Dhaka. President and University Chancellor Md. Abdul Hamid has appointed Professor Md. Abul Kashem as Vice Chancellor of BUTEX for the next four years. Education Ministry confirmed its appointment on February 18 through the gazette notification.
Professor M A Kashem, from the district Khulna, was a student of the first batch of BSc Engineering College of Textile Technology in 1978. After graduation, he joined the College of Textile Technology as a lecturer in the technical department in 1983. After three years, he went to the United Kingdom for a higher degree in 1986. After two years of acquiring MS.c degree from the United Kingdom in 1988, he returned to the country to join the work.
In 1993, Professor M A Kashem was promoted to the post of Principal Instructor of College of Textile Technology. About eight years later, he was promoted as Associate Professor in 2001. In 2007, the government promoted him as a professor. In the same year, he took over as the acting principal of the College of Textile Technology. In 2009, the Awami League government appointed Professor M A Kashem as the chairman of Bangladesh Technical Education Board. He has been Chairman of the Technical Education Board till 2014. During this period, he served as additional director general of the Directorate of Technical Education from 2011 to 2012.
Professor M A Kashem was appointed as the third Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Textile University. Vice Chancellor Professor M A Kashem sought teachers, employees and media for the overall development of the university by taking responsibility. He expressed his commitment to take the new development project after the ongoing development project in a short time and to make the university well developed.
