In a significant move towards fostering collaboration and enhancing the domestic cotton industry in Bangladesh, Mr. Kerry Conway, Team Leader of the PSCP (Primark Sustainable Cotton Programme), met with Mr. Md. Fazlul Hoque, Vice-President of BTMA (Bangladesh Textile Mills Association) at the BTMA Gulshan Office in Dhaka. Accompanying Mr. Conway were Mr. Farid Uddin, Country Representative, Dawa Dorje, Senior Director, and Mr. Sadequl Amin, PSCP Manager, Bangladesh, all representing PRIMARK.
From the BTMA side, the meeting was attended by Directors Mr. Md. Mosharaf Hossain and Engr. Estahak Ahmed Shaikat.
The primary focus of the meeting was to explore possible collaboration opportunities between BTMA and PRIMARK. A key topic of discussion was the growth of domestic cotton in Bangladesh and the various ways different stakeholders could engage in its development. Both parties emphasized the importance of strengthening the local cotton industry to support the textile sector’s sustainable growth.
In addition, the meeting delved into potential advocacy efforts with the Government of Bangladesh (GoB). The aim is to incentivize local cotton market actors, encouraging more investment and fostering sectoral growth. The discussions highlighted the need for strategic initiatives and policies that would benefit the domestic cotton market, ensuring long-term sustainability and competitiveness.
