QIMA Bangladesh and UTS Explore Partnership to Bring Advanced Textile Testing Closer to Local Manufacturers

Bangladesh-based textile manufacturers may soon have faster access to a wider range of testing and inspection services. QIMA Bangladesh and UTS (United Testing Service), part of the China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC), held an inaugural meeting at QIMA’s Dhaka office and laboratory on March 5, 2026, to explore a potential service partnership. If realized, the collaboration would position QIMA as UTS’s local partner laboratory in Bangladesh, extending the reach of internationally recognized testing capabilities to suppliers at the heart of one of the world’s most active garment-exporting nations.

During the visit, the UTS management team toured QIMA Bangladesh’s facilities, met with the local team, and reviewed laboratory operations. Both parties expressed interest in taking the conversation forward, examining what a collaboration might look like in practice.

No formal agreement has been signed. The two organizations are at the start of a process to assess shared objectives, governance arrangements, and practical next steps.

Why Bangladesh’s textile sector is watching

Global sourcing patterns are shifting, and Bangladesh is one of the clearest beneficiaries. The QIMA Global Sourcing Survey 2026, drawing on insights from over 1,000 businesses with international sourcing networks, found that Bangladesh ranked among the top diversification destinations for US buyers in 2025, alongside Vietnam and India.[1] As brands reduce their reliance on Chinese manufacturing, a growing share of that volume is heading to South and Southeast Asia.

That growth brings higher expectations. More than 90% of Asia-based supply chains outside China expect cost disruptions to be a significant challenge in 2026, with raw material costs alone projected to affect two-thirds of regional supply chains.[2] Compliance pressures are intensifying at the same time. Half of businesses globally expect regulatory challenges to disrupt operations in the year ahead, and one in three still does not know which ESG rules apply to their supply chain.[3]

For factories and suppliers in Bangladesh, the message is clear: buyers expect stronger compliance, faster turnaround, and more reliable quality data. Meeting those expectations often means sending samples abroad, adding cost and time that compress already tight margins. A locally anchored testing partnership between QIMA and UTS could reduce that burden, giving manufacturers access to credible, efficient testing services without the delays.

“This visit reflects our commitment to strengthening textile testing capabilities in Bangladesh. We see real value in working with partners who share our focus on quality and reliability. These discussions are at an early stage, but the intent on both sides is clear.”

Country Representative, QIMA Bangladesh

“Collaborating with QIMA locally can extend the reach of high-standard testing and compliance services, combining UTS’s global expertise with QIMA’s presence on the ground. Together, we aim to support safer and more efficient supply chains for Bangladeshi companies.”

Deputy Marketing Director, UTS

What a partnership could mean in practice

The discussions are exploratory, but the potential is concrete. For Bangladesh-based manufacturers and suppliers, a formal partnership could mean:

  • Access to a broader range of locally delivered textile testing and inspection services, reducing dependence on overseas laboratories
  • Faster turnaround times through shared technical resources and upgraded on-site equipment
  • Dedicated support to meet international buyer requirements and evolving regulatory standards
  • Stronger documentation and reporting capabilities to support supply chain compliance
  • Greater confidence in product quality before goods reach international markets

QIMA and UTS will continue discussions in the coming months. Further updates will be shared as the process develops.
