The campus of BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT) stood still in reflection as the university community came together to honor the life and legacy of Abdullah Hill Rakib, a beloved member of the Board of Trustees and a guiding force in Bangladesh’s fashion education and RMG sector.

Held at BUFT’s multipurpose hall, the memorial event — part discussion meeting, part prayer mahfil — brought together family, friends, colleagues, and students to remember a man whose impact stretched far beyond the boardroom. In a moving ceremony, Rakib’s vision, dedication, and values were celebrated through stories, images, and solemn prayer. Faruque Hassan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at BUFT, led the proceedings with a heartfelt address, “Abdullah Hill Rakib was not just a trustee. He was a pillar — of this university, of our industry, and of the values we hold dear. His guidance shaped our path, and his absence leaves a silence we all feel deeply.”
A powerful visual tribute followed, featuring 100 curated photographs and a documentary film chronicling Rakib’s personal and professional journey — from his instrumental role in transforming the RMG sector to his unwavering commitment to ethical practices and sustainability. Colleagues, close friends, and family members took turns at the podium, recounting warm anecdotes and moments that revealed Rakib’s compassionate spirit, people-first leadership, and quiet strength.
In a symbolic gesture of remembrance, BUFT unveiled a special certificate of honor and a photo album capturing some of Rakib’s most cherished moments on campus. These keepsakes now serve as permanent reminders of his deep connection to the institution and its mission.
The event concluded with a prayer mahfil, as attendees united in offering prayers for Rakib’s departed soul and shared condolences with his grieving family. Though gone too soon, Abdullah Hill Rakib’s legacy lives on — in the classrooms he helped shape, in the values he championed, and in the hearts of those who knew and admired him.
