On 9 July 2024 a seminar on “Smart Textiles for Smart Bangladesh” was held at Sheikh Rehana Textile Engineering College, Gopalganj. This seminar was organized by the authorities of SRTEC and aimed to explore the potential and advancements of smart textiles in contributing to the vision of a technologically advanced Bangladesh.


The seminar featured several eminent speakers, including:
Dr. Mohammad Abbas Uddin Shiyak, Assistant Professor [BUTEX]
SK Nazmus Saaqib, Assistant Professor [SRTEC]
And presided over by our principal of SRTEC Engr. Nayon Chandra Ghosh
The primary objectives of the seminar were:
- To discuss the latest innovations in smart textiles.
- To understand the role of smart textiles in the development of a smart and sustainable Bangladesh.
- And how to cope up with academia, industry, and fieldwork.
The seminar covered a wide range of topics related to smart textiles and many more, including:
- Skill Gaps in Textile Engineering Graduates:
• Current Scenario: Graduates in Textile Engineering face significant skill gaps after completing their BSc. This gap hinders their ability to solve industry problems using current technologies and intelligence.Due to these skill gaps, foreign professionals often secure higher positions in the Bangladeshi textile industry, leaving local graduates at a disadvantage. - Need for Unique Education and Study-Work Linkage:
• To bridge this skill gap, the speaker emphasized the need for a unique approach to education that goes beyond traditional learning methods. There should be a strong linkage between academic studies and practical work experience. This integration can help students develop the capability to solve problems logically and efficiently. - Adapting to Industry Upgrades:
•The textile industry is continuously evolving, and we are now in the midst of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Professionals and graduates must stay updated with the latest advancements and upgrades in the industry to remain competitive and prosperous.
~The seminar on “Smart Textiles for Smart Bangladesh” provided valuable insights into the current state and future directions of the textile industry in Bangladesh. The discussions highlighted the importance of bridging skill gaps through unique education approaches and the necessity of staying updated with industry advancements. This event underscored the potential of smart textiles to transform various sectors and contribute to the vision of a technologically advanced Bangladesh.
