S & D Chemicals Pvt Ltd was awarded the Bronze Award of Presidential Environmental Awards 2016 organized by the Central Environmental Authority which was held on October 18, 2016 at BMICH. S&D Chemicals was adjudged the second best performer in the category of Chemical Products under the industrial sector as no candidate was selected for the Gold Award.
S & D Chemicals is a leading private sector company in Sri Lanka which is engaged in manufacturing industrial chemicals, intermediates and polymers for various industrial applications. The manufacturing facilities of the company are located at the Biyagama Export Processing Zone (BEPZ) and Fullerton Industrial Estate in Kalutara. The company has now widen its wings and expanded its technical selling services in Bangladesh, Indonesia, India, Maldives and in several Latin America; Middle Eastern countries.
The company runs on the basis of ‘Life Cycle Thinking’ and the 3R Concept including the practical aspects of the terms Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. It is also on the way forward to reduce our carbon foot print and to be the first carbon neutral company of the sector by 2025. The company has already facilitated with solar energy based electricity. The company puts maximum effort to reduce the energy consumption in our production process. S&D initiates the production process only after running a proper risk assessment which involves a thorough investigation of every possible accident that may occur during the production process and be prepared to implement possible alternatives or management strategies. It’s analytical laboratories use the world’s most sophisticated equipments such as Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Spectrophotometers, etc. Further S&D uses UV disinfection and high tech membrane technologies such as Reverse Osmosis to treat water that is used in the production process. The company follows strict regulations and standards in waste disposal. Solid waste and scheduled waste are disposed through CEA approved organizations and liquid waste is pre-treated and disposed to the BOI central treatment plant.
