Seminar on Sustainability in Bangladesh Textile Sector and Academic Excellence Award Ceremony Held at Northern University Bangladesh

The Department of Textile Engineering of Northern University Bangladesh organized a seminar titled “Sustainability as a Strategic Solution for Bangladesh’s Textile Sector” along with the Academic Excellence Award Ceremony- Spring-2026 on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Seminar Room 105 of the university’s main building.

The program was graced by the Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman, as the Chief Guest Professor Dr. (Engr.) Md. Mostafizur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Treasures of the University, attended as the Special Gust. The keynote presentation was delivered by Mr. Rakibul Hasan, Regional Technical Sector Manager of ITS Labtest Bangladesh Ltd. The event was also attended by the department’s coordinator, faculty members, and students. The session was Chaired by Mr. G.M. Faisal, Associate Professor and head of the Department of Textile Engineering.

The program commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Manaindra Nath Roy, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Textile Engineering. He warmly welcomed the distinguished guests, faculty members, and students and highlighted the significance of the seminar.

In his speech, the Special Guest Professor Dr. (Engr.) Md. Mostafizur Rahman, highly appreciated the initiative of organizing both the seminar and the Academic Excellence Award Ceremony. He emphasized that sustainable development is essential for the future growth and global competitiveness of Bangladesh’s textile industry. He also stressed the importance of universities and textile engineering departments in advancing research and developing skilled human resources to support sustainable industrial development.

During the keynote session, Mr. Rakibul Hasan discussed how sustainability can serve as a game-changer for the textile sector. He highlighted the importance of adopting solar energy, water recycling, and garment waste recycling to ensure environmental sustainability and long-term business competitiveness. He also encouraged students to acquire multidisciplinary knowledge beyond their academic curriculum to meet the demands of the evolving textile industry.

Addressing the students, the Chief Guest, Professor Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman, spoke about the increasing competition in the global textile market and the strategies Bangladesh must adopt to strengthen its position. He elaborated on the role of innovation, marketing, and value addition in sustaining the growth of the country’s textile and apparel industry.

At the end of the seminar, certificates and crest awards were presented to the outstanding students of the Spring 2026 semester. The award recipients were Mst. Atiya Sultana Shoma (CGPA 3.94) from the 1st semester, Mahmuda Aktar (3.88) from the 2nd semester, Bithi Rani (4.00) from the 3rd semester, Mst. Jarin Tasnim (4.00) from the 4th semester, Jannaty Mim (3.86) from the 5th semester, Prionty Sen Trina (3.93) from the 6th semester, Tasriq Alam (4.00) from the 8th semester, Asma Akter (3.75) from the 9th semester, Nazma Ul Mitu (3.92) from the 10th semester, and Biplob Kumar Das (4.00) from the 11th semester. In addition, Tasriq Alam received a special award for achieving the highest cumulative CGPA of 3.98 in the department.

Following the award distribution, the students participated in a photo session with the distinguished guests, creating a joyful and memorable atmosphere.

In his closing remarks, the Chair of the program, Mr. G. M. Faisal discussed the skills and professional competencies required for success in the textile sector. He emphasized the importance of strong networking and collaboration between current students and alumni. Expressing his confidence in the students’ abilities, he stated that the students of the Department of Textile Engineering, Northern University Bangladesh, would continue to demonstrate excellence and contribute significantly to the industry in the future.

The event concluded successfully with insightful discussions, recognition of academic achievements, and enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members
