Dhaka: Garment workers are the backbone of Bangladesh’s apparel industry, driving one of the country’s largest sources of foreign currency through their relentless hard work. In recognition of their contribution, Moon Readymade Garments Ltd. (a concern of Setara Group) has taken a unique welfare initiative by launching a fair-price shop named Apon Bazar inside its factory premises.

The shop was officially inaugurated on Monday by BGMEA Director and Managing Director of Moon Readywears Ltd, Asef Kamal Pasha. Also present were Apon Bazar’s Managing Director, Mr. Yasir, along with officials and employees of both organizations.
Through this initiative, workers will be able to purchase essential goods at prices lower than the market rate. They will also have access to buy on credit when needed. Additionally, the program includes special offers and annual health cards for workers based on their purchases.
Speaking at the inauguration, Asef Kamal Pasha said, Workers are the driving force of our garment sector. Our main objective is to improve their quality of life and ensure they enjoy certain benefits. Apon Bazar may be a small step, but it will bring a positive change in their lives.
According to company sources, since assuming responsibility as a BGMEA Director, Pasha has been working to introduce worker-friendly initiatives. The launch of Apon Bazar is a continuation of that commitment.
Workers themselves expressed optimism about the initiative. One of them said, Now we can buy our daily essentials here without the hassle of crowded shops and high prices outside. This will save us money.
Industry insiders believe such initiatives will not only improve workers’ living standards but also strengthen the bond between employers and employees in the garment sector.
