Shams Mahmud Elected President of BTCCI for 2023-2025

Shams Mahmud, a prominent entrepreneur in the textile and readymade garment sector, has been elected as the new president of the Bangladesh-Thai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTCCI) for the 2023-2025 term. The election was held during the 17th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the BTCCI at the Dhaka Club Ltd. Along with Mahmud, Md Munir Hossain and Md Salem Sulaiman were elected as senior vice president and vice president respectively, while Shamima Rahman and Mohammad Junaed-Ibne Ali were elected as director of administration and director of finance for the same period.

Furthermore, the election also included the appointment of 10 new directors, namely Abul Kashem Khan, Mohammed Hussain Sattar, Jafer Ummeed Khan, Shuchat Suntipada, Kiatkati Chaopaknam, Shahzada A Hamid, Md. Ahsanuzzaman, Brahmanda Pratap Barua, Zubair Hassan Chowdhury, and M K Karim Antu.

Aside from being the newly elected BTCCI president, Mahmud is also the secretary general of the Consular Corps Bangladesh (CCB) and vice president of the Bangladesh-Philippines Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BPCCI). He previously held the position of president in the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI).

Meanwhile, Md Munir Hossain, the newly elected senior vice president, is a director of Vertex Group, a top-level business house in the readymade garment sector of Bangladesh. He is also a director of The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), the Shippers’ Council of Bangladesh, and the Exporters Association of Bangladesh. He previously held positions as vice president of the Bangladesh-Thai Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BTCCI) and the Shippers’ Council of Bangladesh and director of BGMEA. Additionally, he is a civil sponsor of Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC).

Md Salem Sulaiman, the newly elected vice president, is the Managing Director of Massons Polymer Corporation, Lalbagh Metal Industries Ltd., and Champion & Massons Ltd. He holds various positions in other businesses and social organizations and is a former director of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI).

The election of the BTCCI officers was conducted by Engr. Rashed Maksud Khan, the Chairman of the Election Board, who is a former president of both the DCCI and BTCCI. The newly elected officers and directors are expected to lead the BTCCI to new heights in promoting trade and business opportunities between Bangladesh and Thailand.
