360 TSL is pleased to announce that, ‘SM Sourcing’ a garments manufacturing facility in Gazipur, Bangladesh is honored with LEED Platinum Certification in Recognition of Sustainability Leadership and it’s an official recognition by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for achieving the esteemed LEED Platinum certification. This milestone showcased SM Sourcing’s dedication to sustainable practices and its commitment to environmental stewardship.
The SM Sourcing takes immense pride in achieving LEED Platinum certification with highest LEED points (106 of 110) and became the best Green Building Project in the World, marking a significant milestone in our journey towards environmental stewardship and sustainable development. This achievement underscores SM Sourcing’s unwavering commitment to creating a greener, healthier future for generations to come.
During the ceremony, held on 26.02.2024 at 360 TSL Training Center, Dhanmondi, Dhaka, showcased the innovative features and technologies that contributed to its LEED Platinum certification. From energy-efficient design elements to water conservation measures, SM Sourcingits holistic approach to sustainability and its proactive efforts to minimize its environmental impact.
Mr. Santanu Dutta Gupta (USGBC Faculty, Associate Director – Market Development) from GBCI & USGBC handover the certificate and LEED Plaque as Honorable Guest.
Mr. Santanu Dutta Gupta said “Receiving the LEED Platinum certification is a significant achievement for SM Sourcing, and it reflects its ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. GBCI & USGBC like to congratulate the entire team to be came the best ‘Green Building Project’ in the World.
Mirza Shams Mahmud Shakti, CEO of SM Sourcing stated his pride in elevating Bangladesh’s position on the global stage. He said, “Among the many sustainability initiatives, we focused on the rainwater storing system under the garden on the factory premises and its diversified usage in the factory. Also, we have a rooftop solar power system.”
“Carbon emission can be identified as our planet’s number one enemy. Reducing carbon from the environment is a global challenge. Despite being a garment factory, our commitment to our planet’s wellbeing and safety is uncompromising. Our buyers and vendors, are both equally concerned deeply about our environment. Going Green, will not only ensure reducing energy and water usage along with lower operating costs but also improved indoor air quality and increased employee productivity,” added Mirza Shams.
Ananta Ahmed, International Green Building Expert, LEED AP, USGBC Faculty and the Principal LEED Consultant of 360 TSL was hosted the program. He said, “LEED is not just a certificate; it is the most effective business management system if we understand and follow. Benefits are very high and could not be ignore”. SM Sourcing is the shining example of that. He also said, “If we understand LEED Green Building Concepts in a factual way, the cost is not an issue and if we analyze the costs and benefits in a meaningful way, we will see LEED Green Building Cost lees then regular buildings and create PROFIT.”
Ananta Ahmed made a presentation highlighting SM Sourcing Green Journey and Sustainable Achievements. Sustainable Achievements has been highlighted in two fronts, one is Building Dequantizations perspectives and other one is LEED perspectives.
Building Decarbonizations Achievements Summary are as follow; –
- Total Carbon Emissions reduction is 3,741 Tons of CO2e to 1,057 Tons of CO2e, that is equivalent to 67,100 Trees planted.
- Energy related Carbon Emissions was 354 Tons of CO2e and Carbon Emissions savings is 181 T CO2e which 30.5 T CO2e savings came from Renewable Energy use.
- Carbon Emissions reduction of water savings. 19 KgCO2e- from Rainwater, 135 KgCO2e- from Fixtures, 31 KgCO2e- from Landscape and Total = 185 KgCO2e- Reduced.
- Carbon Emissions reduction achieved from Waste Management, 22 Tons of CO2e reduce to 4 Tons of CO2e and Reduction was 18 T CO2e
- Carbon Emissions reduction from Transportation sector was significant which is 3313 Tons of CO2e to 847 Tons of CO2e and Reduction 2466 T CO2e
- Carbon Emissions reduction from Better Living initiatives and number is 51 TCO2e to 26 TCO2e and reduction is 25 TCO2e.
- Greeneries inclusion at project site added 1420Kg CO2e reductions sequestered Annually.
