In light of the current political crisis in Bangladesh, we want to reaffirm our commitment to neutrality and peace. Our Ready-Made Garment (RMG) industry remains politically neutral, with no involvement in any form of violence from our workers or members. To demonstrate our solidarity and sympathy for those affected by recent violence, BGMEA Can organizing a Manab Bandhan (human chain) in front of our industry from 8:00 AM to 8:15 AM. During this time, they will mourn for one minute for the people who died in this violence and seek justice for the victims’ families or what better they can do but need to do something to keep our image positive
This peaceful demonstration, with a banner showing our support and condolences, aims to send a positive message to the world: we, the RMG and textile sector of Bangladesh, are united in our stance against violence. We are committed to ensuring that our industry remains a safe and secure place to make your products.
The Ready-Made Garment (RMG) sector in Bangladesh is currently facing unprecedented challenges, energy cricis , short of ordrs and now this major political crisis which have intensified over the last eight nine days. Communication with our global customers has been disrupted, creating uncertainty and unpredictability. This situation has the potential to be either positive or negative, but it is critical for industry owners to focus on addressing image issues that have now become a significant concern.
The recent quota demands and their widespread negative portrayal globally have created an image crisis for the “Made in Bangladesh” tag. This has serious implications for our RMG sector, as the industry’s reputation is at stake. It is imperative for our government and industry leaders to work together to tackle these issues head-on and turn this crisis into an opportunity to reinforce our commitment to quality and ethical practices.
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) currently has 2,500 active member factories, but around 700 to 800 of these are small and medium enterprises (SMEs) still struggling from the impacts of COVID-19. These factories are at risk of severe trouble without substantial support from both the government and industry organizations but at this point i think expecting governments support is not wise to thinks so need to way out something new . The larger factories, on the other hand, are grappling with bank repayments and may face a shortage of orders for the next season.
This situation calls for a collective effort to support our RMG sector, especially the SMEs that are the backbone of our industry. It is crucial to provide financial aid, policy support, and market access to ensure their survival and growth. Additionally, maintaining open and transparent communication with our international customers is essential to restore confidence in the “Made in Bangladesh” brand.
We hope our government and industry leaders will swiftly respond to these challenges, working together to implement solutions that safeguard our industry’s future. While the path ahead is not easy, with collaboration and determination, we can overcome these. I just share my thought with my limited knowledge , our industry had lot of dynamin and talented people hope they will definitely over come with a solution.
