Sustainable design: less samples, less waste, digital first

Arahne and Gemell delivering a complete digital solution for fabric development

Arahne d.o.o. and Gemell Technology Ltd have joined forces to bring to the textile industry a complete digital workflow for fabric development. Gemell’s FabricViewer is integrated with Arahne’s ArahWeave weaving CAD program, allowing designers to export the fabrics in 3D format.

Gemell’s FabricViewer is a Linux/MacOS/Windows application that renders fabrics in 3D down to the filament level. You can also view the fabric on the 3D model and edit the yarns in the 3D Yarn editor before applying them to the 3D fabric rendering. Yarn manufacturers can also create simulations of yarn swatches.

ArahWeave is a jacquard and dobby fabric design CAD/CAM software for professional textile designers and weaving mills. ArahWeave can export technically exact fabrics in repeat into Gemell’s FabricViewer, to visualize the design in 3D and inspect the weave structure. You can also export the fabric as GLTF or PBR textures for further processing in 3D animation and garment development software.

Arahne and Gemell’s collaboration aims to bring the textile industry closer to the goal of decreasing textile waste by avoiding unnecessary sampling. Using ArahWeave and FabricViewer during the design stage we can greatly reduce the sampling costs. Designers don’t need to weave samples to inspect the design or send them to a customer anymore. They can simply check the fabric design and weave structure in 3D by exporting the finished fabric from ArahWeave to FabricViewer. The option to export the fabric in GLTF format allows designers to send the fabric sample as digital file to a customer, who can then open it with GLTF viewers from any web browser. No extra software is needed on the customer’s part. Arahne and Gemell will showcase ArahWeave and FabricViewer at the upcoming Filo exhibition in Milan, February 26-27, 2025.
