Ahead of the upcoming election of the Institution of Textile Engineers and Technologists (ITET), the Go Green (GG) Panel organized an interactive discussion session with senior members of the textile engineering community at the Lotus Lounge of Uttara Club Ltd. in Dhaka on Monday evening.
The event witnessed the participation of a large gathering of renowned textile engineers, technologists, academics, and industry leaders, including graduates from various batches of Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX). The platform facilitated open dialogue between experienced professionals and the GG Panel, focusing on the future direction of ITET and the advancement of Bangladesh’s textile engineering profession.
The session was moderated by Engr. Prithila Kamal. During the opening remarks, Engr. A.S.M. Hafizur Rahman Nixon, Secretary General Candidate of the GG Panel, introduced the panel members and outlined their strategic priorities for strengthening the institution.
Several prominent figures from Bangladesh’s textile and apparel sector addressed the audience, including Prof. Dr. Engr. Md. Zulhash Uddin, Vice Chancellor of BUTEX; Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Vice Chancellor of BUFT; Engr. Md. Shamsuzzaman, CIP, Managing Director of Micro Fibre Group; Engr. Md. Shafiqur Rahman, Managing Director of HAMS Group and former President of ITET; Engr. Abdus Sobhan, Managing Director of Auko-Tex Group; Mahbubul Alam Milton, Executive Director of MASCO Group; and Engr. Ehsanul Karim Kaiser, Convenor of the Interim Convening Committee.
During the discussion, speakers highlighted the importance of institutional development, leadership excellence, professional training, and stronger collaboration between industry and academia. They stressed the need for an active and capable ITET leadership that can effectively represent textile engineers and contribute to the sustainable growth of Bangladesh’s textile and apparel industry.
Speaking at the event, Engr. Md. Enayet Hossain, President Candidate of the GG Panel, emphasized the necessity of establishing a permanent headquarters for ITET.
“Despite completing 43 years of service to textile engineers, ITET still operates without its own building. Establishing a dedicated ITET complex will be one of our highest priorities. Such a facility will create opportunities for professional training, networking, recreational activities, and sustainable revenue generation for the institution,” he said.
Engr. A.S.M. Hafizur Rahman Nixon highlighted the panel’s commitment to policy engagement and professional development.
“Our goal is to ensure that textile engineers have a stronger voice in policy-making processes. We also intend to create more training opportunities, leadership development programs, and career support initiatives for young engineers. The GG Panel brings together professionals from diverse segments of the textile industry, creating a balanced and capable leadership team,” he stated.
Addressing the significance of the upcoming election, Engr. Sumayel Md. Malik, Senior Vice President Candidate of the GG Panel, described the election as a historic opportunity for institutional renewal.
“After more than a decade, ITET members will have the opportunity to elect their leadership through a democratic process. We are committed to building a professional, transparent, and forward-looking institution that can effectively serve the interests of textile engineers,” he said.
The event concluded with an engaging exchange of ideas between senior industry leaders and GG Panel representatives. Participants expressed confidence that stronger collaboration, visionary leadership, and strategic initiatives could help transform ITET into a more influential professional body capable of supporting future generations of textile engineers and contributing to the continued success of Bangladesh’s textile and apparel sector.
