Thina Sweaters Limited, sister concern of Ocean Sweater Ind. (Pvt.) Ltd., a sustainable sweater garment manufacturer has successfully launched an 1200KW rooftop solar power system at its state-of-the-art facility in Gazipur.

Rooftop solar power installation will meet the apparel maker’s energy demand to a great extent.
With open land scarce in Bangladesh, the textile industry is playing a part in the nation’s clean energy transition by using roof space for solar power.
Md. Raihan Uddin Khan, Managing Director of Thina Sweaters, a sister concern of Ocean Sweater Pvt. Ltd has said,

Swedish fashion company, Gina Tricot, sources more than a billion USD worth of apparel each year. The brand has a very good reputation in terms of sustainability and ethical sourcing.
At the Grand launching ceremony, Chief guest, Rebecca Watkins, Global Sustainability Manager of Gina Tricot said,
“We believe in the power of green initiatives to make a lasting impact on both the environment and the future of sustainable manufacturing in Bangladesh.

We, Gina Tricot, have very firm sourcing and production strategy that is well routed and to establish new business. Bangladesh is very important! We have invested in a local production office with our own staff covering sourcing, merchandising, quality, CSR, environment. We see a growth in the RMG sector in Bangladesh.”
“Gina Tricot has a comprehensive plan to reduce its carbon emissions, which includes a Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) validated goal to cut carbon emissions by 50% by 2030”, she added.
Julia Persson, Sustainability Co-ordinator of Gina Tricot, and Md. Mamun Zubery Mirza, Chairman of Ocean Sweater Ind. (Pvt.) Ltd. were present at the inauguration ceremony.
Kazi Ashfaqul Islam, Country Manager of Gina Tricot said,
“As a sustainable manufacturing hub, Bangladeshi RMG makers are now focusing on rooftop solar to produce green energy. It’s a great initiative for environment sustainability.
Gina Tricot sources a significant portion of its clothing from Bangladesh, where it has a local office in Dhaka to manage its supply chain and production.”
“We have a lot to increase in our business plan for Bangladesh”, he added.
At the event, Gina tricot’s team visited the green manufacturing facilities and saw the latest innovative technology for sweater production.

At the end of the event, a tree was planted by Gina Tricot’s global team.
