Understanding the Carbon Footprint of DenimSuppliers Workshop on Responsible Contracting, hosted by the Fair Wear Foundation

On 23rd September, at the Suppliers Workshop on Responsible Contracting, hosted by the Fair Wear Foundation, industry stakeholders reflected on how to move towards a fairer and more balanced RMG supply chain.

Speaking at the event, BGMEA Director Joarder Mohammed Hosne Quamar Alam emphasized that when brands do not engage directly with business associations, opportunities for transparency and balanced partnerships are lost. He underlined the need for brands to share responsibility — so that compliance, fair wages, and sustainability are not borne by suppliers alone.

He also underscored the need for policies to ensure brands pay a fair price, while highlighting the importance of educating manufacturers on what constitutes fair pricing. He also discussed how contracts can be designed and executed in a safe and equitable way, protecting the interests of all parties involved.

Adding to this vision, the BGMEA Responsible Business Hub (RBH) reaffirmed its role in supporting the industry with guidance, capacity building, and resources to ensure that responsible business practices become a norm, not an exception.

Such initiatives demonstrate that the future of Bangladesh’s RMG sector lies in collective responsibility, ethical trade, and stronger partnerships between brands, associations, and suppliers.
