University of Dhaka and GarmentTechBD Partner to Advance Digital and Sustainable Supply Chain Transformation in Bangladesh’s Textile Sector

The University of Dhaka (DU) has entered a strategic partnership with the Academy of Garments Technology Bangladesh (GarmentTechBD) to accelerate digital supply chain transformation and sustainability across Bangladesh’s textile and apparel sector. To support this GarmentTech express™ will play an important role.

This collaboration reflects a shared vision to bridge academic excellence with changing industry needs, and enable a new generation of professionals equipped to support global supply chain transformation. By aligning education, innovation, and applied research with emerging industrial requirements, the partnership aims to strengthen Bangladesh’s position as a competitive and sustainable hub in the global apparel value chain.

At the core of the initiative is a strong emphasis on Digital Product Passport (DPP) implementation, circular economy practices, and end-to-end supply chain digitalization. Through the adoption of Any Digital Product Passport (AnyDPP), Materials Intelligence Model, Operational Technology Hub frameworks, the partnership seeks to enhance transparency, traceability, and compliance with evolving international sustainability standards, particularly in response to regulatory developments in global markets.

The collaboration will be realized through a series of joint initiatives, including advanced training programs, workshops, simulation-based learning, boot camps, and innovation-driven competitions. These activities are designed to provide students with practical exposure to modern industrial practices while fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning. In parallel, applied research projects and pilot implementations under GarmentTech.express™ will enable real-world testing and deployment of digital and sustainable solutions within the textile ecosystem.

For students at the University of Dhaka, the partnership opens new pathways for experiential learning and professional development. Participants will gain access to e-learning platforms, industry-relevant certifications, and hands-on experience in sustainability and digital transformation initiatives. This integrated approach ensures that graduates are not only academically qualified but also equipped with the practical skills and global perspectives required by industry.

From an industry standpoint, the collaboration strengthens the integration between academia and the ready-made garment (RMG) sector, supporting enterprises in meeting environmental, social, and governance (ESG) requirements while building a future-ready workforce. By fostering knowledge exchange and collaboration, the initiative contributes to the broader goal of sustainable industrial transformation in Bangladesh.

The Memorandum of Understanding was formally signed by Professor M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on behalf of the University of Dhaka and Dr. Henry Soo on behalf of GarmentTechBD, in the presence of representatives from both institutions. From the University of Dhaka, the ceremony was attended by  Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmed (Acting Registrar), and Professor Dr. Muhammad Shariat Ullah (Advisor, Student Promotion and Support Unit – SPSU). From GarmentTechBD, Abdus Salam (Advisor), Kamruzzaman Sheikh (Customer Success Manager), and Md. Panna Rahman (Sales Manager) were present.

The Student Promotion and Support Unit (SPSU) at the University of Dhaka will serve as the focal point for coordinating and implementing activities under the agreement.

This partnership represents a significant milestone in advancing digital and sustainable supply chain practices in Bangladesh’s textile sector. By combining academic leadership with industry expertise, the initiative is set to drive innovation, enhance global competitiveness, and support the development of a resilient and future-ready apparel ecosystem.
