The consulate office of Vietnam opened in Chattogram on Friday.
An initiative has been taken to establish a sister city relationship between Chattogram and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Newly appointed Honorary Consul SM Abu Tayyab inaugurated the ceremony of the Honorary Consulate office of Vietnam at Radisson Blu Bay View hotel in Chattogram City in the evening.
Supporting the initiative, Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain said, “If sister city relations are established between Chattogram and Ho Chi Minh, new horizons of cooperation in economic, cultural and technological fields will be opened.”
Vietnam Ambassador His Excellency Nguyen Meng Quang said, “The friendly relations between Bangladesh and Vietnam are long-standing. Such initiatives will further strengthen the bonds of harmony between the people of the two countries.”
The event jointly organized by the Ambassador of Vietnam, His Excellency Nguyen Meng Quang and the newly appointed Honorary Consul SM Abu Tayyab, was attended by ambassadors, honorary consuls and dignitaries of the city.
British High Commissioner Sarah Cook, Ambassador of the Netherlands Andre Jacobs, High Commissioner of Singapore Mitchell Lee, Assistant High Commissioner of India Dr. Rajiv Ranjan were also present at the event. Among the distinguished guests were Honorary Consul of the Philippines Abdul Awal, Honorary Consul of Italy Salman Ispahani, Honorary Consul of Spain Mia Rahim, Consul of Russia Ashiq Imran, Consul of Myanmar HM Hakim Ali, Honorary Consul of South Korea Mohammad Mohsin, Honorary Consul of South Africa Sulaiman Seth.
