Wendler Interlining Bangladesh Limited officially opened its new production facility in Bangladesh on Saturday, marking a significant milestone in the German textile specialist’s long-term commitment to the country’s ready-made garment (RMG) industry. The opening ceremony brought together senior executives of Wendler Interlining Group, industry stakeholders and business partners to celebrate the company’s growing presence in Bangladesh and its vision for the future of the global interlining market.

Wendler Interlining, a family-owned German company with roots dating back to 1843, has evolved from a textile finisher into a specialist in high-quality interlinings for the garment industry. The company established its own Bangladesh subsidiary in 2022, building on its production presence in the country since 2009. According to the company, Bangladesh is a strategically important market because of its position as one of the world’s largest garment-producing countries.

From 180 years of heritage to a new chapter in Bangladesh:

Addressing the ceremony, Dr Gerhart Wendler, Chairman of Wendler Interlining Group, highlighted the company’s long history, its transformation through successive generations and its continuing commitment to innovation and quality. He spoke about Wendler’s journey from its establishment in 1843 to becoming an international specialist in interlinings. The company shifted its strategic focus to high-quality interlining fabrics in 1974 and subsequently expanded its presence across major garment-producing markets in Asia.  Dr Wendler also outlined the group’s future ambition of strengthening its position as the market leader in interlinings, with Bangladesh playing an increasingly important role in that strategy.

Global strength and local presence:

Kanat Altunbas, General Manager Asia, Wendler Interlining Group, spoke about the company’s international footprint and the strength of its global network. Wendler says it currently operates across 38 countries, works with around 5,000 partners and maintains 30 warehouses, allowing it to combine global expertise with local customer support. Its production network spans Germany and Asia, enabling the company to remain close to major garment-producing markets. Altunbas also underlined the strategic importance of the Bangladesh factory. The company has previously described its Bangladesh investment as part of an effort to provide garment manufacturers with faster, more reliable local supply and technical support.

Products, services and the future of Bangladesh RMG

Aman Hossain, Head of Sales & Marketing, presented Wendler’s product portfolio and service capabilities while discussing the evolving landscape of Bangladesh’s RMG industry. Wendler offers a broad range of interlining solutions, including cotton and polyester interlinings, fusible and non-fused materials, water-soluble products, seam tapes and other garment-related accessories. Its product portfolio includes both conventional and sustainable options, with many products certified under OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100. Aman also addressed the opportunities and challenges facing Bangladesh’s apparel sector as manufacturers increasingly respond to changing customer expectations, sustainability requirements and the need for greater efficiency and product quality. The company’s approach goes beyond supplying materials. Wendler provides technical support, product consultation, laboratory testing, customized solutions and assistance throughout the production process.

Faster supply and stronger customer support

Ashief Khan, Operations Director, focused on the advantages of local production for Wendler’s customers in Bangladesh and the wider region. The new facility is expected to bring production closer to major garment manufacturers, helping customers benefit from shorter supply chains, faster response times and greater flexibility. Local manufacturing can also strengthen communication between Wendler’s technical teams and garment producers, allowing customer-specific requirements to be addressed more efficiently.

A strategic investment in Bangladesh’s garment industry

The factory opening marks another step in Wendler’s strategy to combine its German heritage and quality standards with production close to the world’s major garment manufacturing centres. Wendler has increasingly placed sustainability at the centre of its global expansion. The company says its environmental strategy includes developing sustainable products, environmentally responsible production, and efforts to reduce its global footprint. Its Asian manufacturing network already includes a sustainable “Green Factory” in Vietnam. For Bangladesh, the new production facility comes at a time when the RMG industry is seeking greater efficiency, shorter lead times, improved product quality, and more sustainable manufacturing practices.

With the opening of Wendler Interlining Bangladesh Limited, the company is positioning itself to support these requirements while strengthening its own presence in one of the world’s most important apparel manufacturing hubs. The October 3 ceremony therefore marked more than the inauguration of a new factory. It signalled the beginning of a new phase in Wendler’s Bangladesh journey—one that brings together the company’s long German textile heritage, global network, technical expertise, and a renewed commitment to serving the rapidly evolving Bangladesh RMG industry.
