In December 2019, the Zschimmer & Schwarz Group, a global supplier of chemical auxiliaries and specialities headquartered in Lahnstein, Germany, acquired a majority stake of 60% in Samia S.p.A. Due to the very successful experiences of the past years, the cooperation will be further intensified: on 27 June 2023, the Zschimmer & Schwarz Group acquired the remaining shares in the Italian company. Samia is thus a wholly owned subsidiary of the Lahnstein-based family business.

Luigi Ciarlo, Chief Executive Officer of Samia S.p.A., emphasises the advantages of the takeover: “With Zschimmer & Schwarz, we have a partner at our side that shares our philosophy regarding quality, long-term planning and customer proximity. In an increasingly international and competitive environment, we can benefit from Zschimmer & Schwarz’s strong network and offer our products to a wider range of customers.”

Dr Christoph Riemer, Chief Executive Officer of the Zschimmer & Schwarz Group, also sees great opportunities in the combined know-how of both companies: “Samia offers outstanding tailor-made products for the leather finishing industry. In combination with Zschimmer & Schwarz’s wet-end product portfolio and our global positioning – with 28 companies in 16 countries on five continents – we can jointly develop new markets. In particular, Samia’s expertise in research and development is an important building block here, and we expect great synergy potential in the field of sustainable solutions as well.”

“Our customers as well as their own customers are expecting sustainable products more than ever,” agrees Dr Marc Hombeck, Global Director Leather Auxiliaries Division at Zschimmer & Schwarz. “The ever-increasing demands require innovative products – such as the S-Range, a particularly sustainable product line in our portfolio. Samia’s know-how regarding the finishing of leather products is a great asset for Zschimmer & Schwarz. In the future, Samia’s portfolio will be part of our Leather Auxiliaries Division and cover the finishing part.”

Customers can look forward to an expanded product portfolio for wet-end and for the finishing of leather products including pigment solutions with the proven quality of both companies. With a combined 180 years of expertise in the development of customised solutions, Zschimmer & Schwarz and Samia offer their customers worldwide “chemistry tailor-made”.
