15 RMG factories to get “Bangabandhu green factory award”

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to hand over the awards to the winners on December 8 in Dhaka

Desk Report: Bangladesh government is going to give for the first time the green factory award to 30 industrial units where 15 will be in the readymade garment category, four in the tea industry category, three each in the plastic, pharmaceuticals and food processing categories, and two in the leather and leather goods sector.

The aim of recognizing the extraordinary performance of the factories in ensuring environment-friendly production and decent working condition. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to hand over the awards to the winners on December 8 in Dhaka, marking the celebration of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, said the labour and employment ministry.

The readymade garment factories are Remi Holdings Limited, Tarasima Apparels Limited, Plummy Fashions Limited, Mithela Textile Industries Ltd, Vintage Denim Studio Limited, AR Jeans Producer Ltd, Karooni Knit Composite Ltd, Designer Fashion Limited, Kenpark Bangladesh Apparel (Pvt) Ltd, Green Textile Limited, Four H Dyeing and Printing Ltd, Wisdom Attires Limited, Mahmuda Attires Ltd, Snowtex Outerwear Ltd and Auko-Tex Ltd.

It’s a great initiative from our government on behalf of the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. As a green clothing producer, we are happy to achieve this green award. It’s another milestone for Branding Bangladesh of the Textile and apparel industry, said Mahbub Khan Himel, Director Mithela Textile Industries Limited (MTIL) the world’s first LEED Platinum Certified Green Textile factory in Bangladesh. 

To make a green textile industry there is a huge investment here. I hope that the government provides special support for green factories, added Himel.

According to BGMEA, Bangladesh has now 150 LEED green garment factories. where 44 are platinum-rated, 93 gold-rated and nine are silver-rated.
