BASIS election on May 8

The Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) election slated for May 08 marks a significant event in the country’s tech industry landscape.

With a total of 41 candidates vying for 11 pivotal posts in BASIS, the electoral process promises to shape the direction and BASIS leadership for the next term, spanning from 2024 to 2026.

The list of candidates encompasses a diverse array of individuals representing different categories of membership within BASIS.

General members, associate members and international members are all participating in this crucial electoral process, underscoring the broad representation and global reach of the association.

With a total of 2,401 BASIS members eligible to cast their votes, the election holds considerable significance within the tech community, reflecting the collective voice and aspirations of industry stakeholders.

The distribution of voters includes 932 ordinary members, 389 associate members, 134 affiliate members, and 09 international members, each contributing to the democratic process of selecting BASIS leadership.

The nomination withdrawal deadline set for April 17 adds a layer of anticipation as candidates assess their standing and strategic positioning in the run-up to the election.

Following this deadline, the final candidate list will be published on April 20, providing clarity on the line-up of contenders and setting the stage for the electoral showdown.

To oversee the election process, a three-member Election Board has been established, chaired by TIM Nurul Kabir, with Syed Mamnoon Quader and Nazim Farhan Chowdhury serving as members.

Additionally, a three-member Election Appeal Board has been constituted to address any grievances or disputes that may arise during the electoral proceedings, ensuring transparency and fairness in the process.

Anticipation is rife as the election approaches, with speculation rife about the formation of potential panels and alliances among the candidates.

Notable figures such as Russell T Ahmed, Mostafa Rafiqul Islam, Almas Kabir and Samira Zuberi Himika are expected to feature prominently, adding further intrigue to the electoral landscape.

Overall, the 2024 BASIS election represents a critical juncture for the tech industry in Bangladesh, with the outcome poised to shape the trajectory of the association and its role in driving innovation, growth and collaboration within the sector.
