Intertek, a leading provider of quality solutions to industries worldwide, announces the expansion of services offered by its Softlines testing laboratory in Istanbul, Turkey, to support the country’s textiles, apparel and footwear industry.
“With $26 billion USD in exports in 2015, Turkey is among the world’s top 10 exporters of textiles and clothing,” said Neslihan Sözer Güllü, Intertek Turkey’s Softlines Business Line Leader. “We’ve added new capabilities for test methods like the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) moisture management, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) flammability, cotton linen fiber analysis, China’s voluntary FZ fiber analysis standards and antibacterial/antimicrobial testing to meet market demand.”
Sözer Güllü added, “With 320 million pairs of shoes produced there in 2015, Turkey is also among the top 10 countries for footwear manufacturing. To support the industry’s growth, we’ve expanded both chemical and physical footwear testing capabilities to include abrasion resistance of outsoles, upper sole adhesion and heel attachment, to name a few.”
Intertek Turkey’s new testing capabilities include the addition of a range of chemical tests for textiles, apparel and footwear to help manufacturers identify and manage restricted substances like acrylamide, dimethylformamide (DMFa), isocyanate, short chain chlorinated paraffin, organotin compounds, disperse and carcinogenic dyestuff and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
Intertek performs textile and footwear testing on items ranging from material samples to finished products, helping customers meet consumer demand, minimize reputational risk, and reduce environmental impacts, while protecting the interests of retailers, brands, textile manufacturers and consumer safety.
