Bangladesh-based 100% export-oriented Sweaters manufacturing company MT Sweaters Limited has achieved a Platinum Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certificate for existing building design by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The project has achieved platinum certification under the v4.1 Operations and Maintenance Existing Building rating system with a total of 82 points.

The certificate was officially handed over to the Chief Executive Officer of the organization during a formal ceremony held at a hotel in the capital on Saturday evening. At the event, USGBC-GBCI Associate Director (Market Development) Santanu Dutta Gupta handed over the certificate to Managing Director, and CEO, Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman Apu.
In response to receiving the certificate, Alhaj Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman Apu stated, “It is with great pride and excitement to we celebrate a monumental achievement of Platinum LEED certification by MT Sweaters Limited. This recognition marks a significant milestone in our journey towards sustainability and environmental stewardship.”

USGBC-GBCI Associate Director (Market Development) Santanu Dutta Gupta expressed the importance of LEED certification. He said, “LEED certification is a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement, and it is backed by an entire industry of committed organizations and individuals paving the way for market transformation.”

With the new certification of MT Sweaters, Bangladesh now has 214 Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified factories, with 80 achieving Platinum status and 120 Gold, according to data from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA). In 2024, eight RMG factories earned the LEED certification, of which 4 were Platinum and 4 Gold.
