In response to the new coronavirus, many fashion brands and retailers closed shops throughout Europe and in the United States in March and April, canceling orders of billions of dollar clothes , bags, and shoes from Asian garment factories forcing them to shut down and release hundreds and thousands of workers.
Following a public uproar, several Western companies decided to pay for orders that have already delivered or are in production. Others have requested discounts or delayed payment and suppliers have difficulty remaining afloat.
Some retailers place new orders, but Asia’s long-term survival and the welfare of its dismissed employees is uncertain.
