Macy’s Inc. has officially joined with the US Cotton Trust Protocol, a leading sustainable cotton program. The retail giant is now on a mission to source over 50 percent of its private brand cotton products sustainably by the close of 2023.
By partnering with the Trust Protocol, Macy’s aims to revolutionize its supply chain transparency while championing positive social and environmental change within the cotton industry. Macy’s commitment includes sourcing both US Cotton and Protocol Cotton, exclusively cultivated and harvested on the farms of Trust Protocol producers.
What sets this initiative apart is the robust tracking system that ensures the accountability and transparency of every Protocol cotton bale as it traverses the supply chain, courtesy of the Protocol Consumption Management Solution.
In a testament to its dedication to a more sustainable and equitable future, Macy’s has integrated its sustainability endeavors with the social purpose platform ‘Mission Every One.’ This synergy seeks to contribute to a world where every stakeholder benefits from environmentally responsible practices.
Keelin Evans, the Vice President of Sustainability at Macy’s Inc., emphasized the company’s resolve to embed sustainability across its global value chain, stating, “We expect that more than half of cotton products within our private brand lineup, managed by Macy’s sourcing team, will be sustainably sourced by the end of 2023.”
The Trust Protocol stands out as the sole sustainable cotton program that combines measurable and verifiable sustainability objectives with an unwavering commitment to fostering ongoing improvement in six critical sustainability metrics: land use, soil carbon, water management, soil loss, greenhouse gas emissions, and energy efficiency.
Through the program’s integration of sustainability metrics from Field to Market’s Fieldprint Platform, participating growers can now assess the environmental impact of their operations and identify opportunities for future enhancements.
Macy’s Inc. is setting a new standard in the retail industry by actively pursuing a more sustainable and transparent cotton supply chain. This partnership with the US Cotton Trust Protocol exemplifies its commitment to a greener, fairer, and more responsible future for fashion.
